Carol Duval-Leroy: A Grande Dame of Champagne
The Wine Spectator, in a feature on Champagne in the Dec. 31, 2016, issue, notes the region’s “Grandes Dames” – women who for more than 200 years “have been taking Champagne to new heights, with revolutionary innovations and keen business acumen.” Among them is Duval-Leroy’s own Carol Duval-Leroy. The Spectator writes:
Carol Duval-Leroy took over Champagne Duval-Leroy in 1991 at age 35. She introduced the house’s new prestige-cuvee, naming it Femme de Champagne. In 2007, she became the first woman elected president of the Association Viticole Champenoise.
